Chris Dixon Bests Conway, Hoffman For Top Tech Angel Spot
Share |

On Wednesday, BusinessWeek released their list of the top 25 angel investors in the tech industry, naming Hunch co-founder Chris Dixon ahead of veteran angels Ron Conway and Reid Hoffman. Conway and Hoffman are two of the most influential angels in tech, and have invested in some of the largest Internet companies known today, including Google, Facebook, Twitter and Digg. Dixon, a younger, less experienced investor than Conway and Hoffman, snagged the top spot due to both his diverse investment portfolio and the superior financial performance of his investments.

The list was curated in partnership between BusinessWeek and the startup tracker YouNoodle, which took a three pronged approach to ranking the tech angels. First they analyzed the growth of the angels' investments based on the amount invested, the number of employees, and the number of "companies operating at valuations greater than $100 million, and the sale of any companies for more than $50 million."

Leadership was the next key factor which BusinessWeek and YouNoodle took into account. "The importance of each angel was measured by looking at the network of co-investments between angels, as well as at the ability to act as a bridge to other angel groups," writes BusinessWeek's Ira Sager. "From the perspective of an entrepreneur, the ability to attract other investors is critical."

Social Media Example # 25: Yoplait
Share |

Share

I was pretty excited to research Yoplait because I'm a big fan of the brand and its delicious flavors; just thinking about Yoplait Delights has me salivating. Num Num. Additionally, Yoplait is a major advocate for Breast Cancer Awareness which is a cause that is very important to me and many of my friends and family. So without further ado, let's dig in (pun intended)!

Yoplait.com

Yoplait's main website is informative, I'll give them that and is also very aesthetically pleasing. It provides fun recipes, information on how yogurt helps your digestive tract (did you know yogurt can help with lactose intolerance?) and provides information on the cause it supports, Breast Cancer Awareness.

Unfortunately, there is nothing social. Though a couple of its individual brands are on Facebook, Yoplait doesn't bother to link to these pages. And with all of this gr/> [...]

Beginners Tips for SEO
Share |

There really is no secret sauce when it comes to search engine optimization. There are however some important efforts that every new website owner or SEO beginner should be doing when it comes to getting their message out.

Meta Tags: Every meta tag on your website should always be unique. I come across websites all the time where all the meta tag information is exactly the same throughout the entire website which is a very horrible approach. Keeping all your meta information unique on every page of your website is important in order to pull in different amounts of traffic. A successful product page is not going to have the same meta information as your home page. Keeping your meta information different will allow your website to pull in different types of visitors over time. You should always identify all your targeted keywords for your web pages prior to starting the process of onsite optimization. It is important to execute this correctly because it will set the path for all your future website visitors.

First Keyword: Whatever your first word in that meta tag keyword section is should be the first word in your meta title tag. This allows the search engines to realize that the word has high importance for your SEO strategy and more weight will be put on that word. It gives your search engine optimization that much more of an ability to really rank for those designated keywords in search results.

H1 Tags: Don’t forget to use H1 tags on your pages. An H1 tag is a bolded header sitting above any piece of content that acts as a title. You always want to incorporate a keyword into this area as tastefully as possible and you don’t want to over stuff your keywords. Bolded paragraph headers often times have really nice SEO /> [...]

3Tera Acquisition Complete - Disruption Fuels CA Move to the Cloud
Share |

3Tera Acquisition CompleteCA completed its acquisition of 3Tera today in what seems like a successive line of announcements about CA's push into the cloud as an infrastructure service provider.

In fact, the 3Tera announcement feels like yesterday's news in wake of the most recent announcement that CA is acquiring Nimsoft, the California based startup. Overall, CA has been a buying spree, acquiring a total of five companies in the cloud world. In addition to 3Tera and Nimsoft, CA has also purchased Cassatt, NetQos and Oblicore.

CA realizes that the halycon days of being an IT vendor are as solid as vaporous cloud. The real future is in adapting to the enterprise and its efforts to shed IT assets and move its applications to a cloud environment.

The 3Tera and Nimsoft acquisitions exemplify this move.

3Tera

3Tera's AppLogic is a cloud management platform to move applications to a public or private cloud. It's widely viewed that AppLogic gives CA the ability to provide service providers with a set of management tools. It also gives 3Tera the capability to sell to enterprise customers. Some of the challenges concern the scope of AppLogic's virtualization capabilities. It is limited currently to the Xen platform. This could prove an issue as most companies have standardized on VMware. CA says it will broaden AppLogic's virtualization capabilities to VMware ESX and Microsoft HyperV.

Nimsoft

Nimsoft is a cloud management platform and benchmarking service. Cloud computing sounds fine and good but how it compares to on-premise /> [...]
